“We imagine a future and our ideas shock us,” says the new trailer for the highly anticipated film “Oppenheimer”. And further: «I do not know whether such a weapon can be entrusted to us. But we have no choice.”
We are talking about the nuclear weapons used by the Americans in World War II. The “father of the atomic bomb”, J. Robert Oppenheimer, played a crucial role in the development of these nuclear weapons in the 1940s.
The film is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning biography American Prometheus written by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin about Oppenheimer.
Director Christopher Nolan is known for films such as “The Dark Knight”, “Inception”, “Interstellar” and “Dunkirk”, “Tenet” and has been nominated several times for an Oscar and Golden Globe. The screenplay was also written by Nolan.
The main character J. Robert Oppenheimer is played by Cillian Murphy. The cast includes other stars such as Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Jack Quaid and Rami Malek.
The biopic was supposed to hit theaters in 2021, but was postponed due to the corona pandemic. The recordings took place in the winter/spring of this year.
The planned cinema release in Switzerland is July 20, 2023.
