Every Wednesday, Netflix publishes the current top 10 most watched series and films, and every Wednesday there are new records to report – at least that was the case in recent weeks. Because since ‘Wednesday’ can be found on the streaming service, the records have dropped, while the series ‘Addams Family’ has risen further in the all-time ranking. Now “Wednesday” also has “Dahmer Monsters: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer‘ easily overtaken and 1st place seems within reach.
Because between December 5 and 11, 2022, “Wednesday” was watched again no less than 269.7 million hours on Netflix – that’s more than three times as many as the second-placed series in the ranking (“Harry & Meghan”) and significantly more than some other series accumulate in their entire time with Netflix.
This means that “Wednesday” now has 1,022,190,000 (read: 1.02 billion!) viewing hours after almost three weeks on Netflix. Only ‘Stranger Things’ season 4 made more in the English-language series in the first 28 days after publication (namely 1.35 billion hours), which also appeared in two parts, which somewhat distorts the comparability.
To dethrone “Stranger Things 4”, the “Addams Family” series would have to accumulate approximately 330 million hours by December 21, 2022. That is not impossible, it seems given that it has already fallen slightly compared to last week, but rather unlikely. The ‘Wednesday’ numbers are sensational anyway.
The troll comes in at number 1
Just as sensational, if not more sensational, is the success story of the fantasy actor.”troll“, which has been rolling up the field of non-English language films from behind since December 1, 2022. Because while the success of the prominent cast, (partly) directed by Tim Burton and based on the popular “Addams Family” series was at least to be expected (though possibly not in this dimension), hardly anyone had the troll’s triumph .
In each case “Troll” has been viewed 52.3 million hours in the past week and has – as we prophesied in the last message about the film – Ranked #1 for most watched foreign language movies (before the German vampire horror “Blood Red Sky”). A total of 128.1 million hours have been recorded for “Troll”.
To put these numbers in perspective, compared to the most watched English-language films, the “Troll” numbers are quite low, as even number 10 on this list (“The Kissing Booth 2”) has almost twice as many viewing hours. On the other hand, the most-watched foreign-language series is also the most-watched Netflix series ever – namely the mega-hit “Squid Game” (1.65 billion hours).
