Netflix mega hit “Wednesday”: The plan goes well beyond the second season

As Wednesday’s Season 1 finale provided plenty of answers, and the titular heroine, played by Jenna Ortega, uncovered the dark secret of her teacher, Marilyn Thornhill (Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday Addams in the Addams Family films), plenty questions and mysteries remain unanswered for a second season. This hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, but given the success of the series reboot, an announcement is likely to come pretty soon (maybe today at the big Netflix panel at Brazil’s Comic-Con?). But that won’t be the end – at least if those responsible get their way.

Miles Millar, who is the executive writer on the series along with partner Alfred Gough, told the industry magazine that they already have a plan for several more seasons to see where the characters go in the future, what will happen to them: “We have a very clear vision of what we want to do in the coming seasons.”

“Wednesday”: Nothing is set in stone

However, he also made it clear that these plans will not necessarily be executed in exactly this way: “It can always evolve and change. Most of the time you want to see which characters or which cast just pop up and who you want to write for.

He describes a common procedure for series. Even though authors have fixed stories in mind for certain characters, those too are often thrown overboard. This is especially true when you realize that the hired star is so great that you want to expand and/or keep the character longer, or when the audience is so excited about a character that they want to see more than they actually do. was ever planned. That’s why, according to Millar, you need to have a clear plan, but keep it open enough to change and develop.

Wednesday‘ has been on Netflix since November 23, 2022.
