Royal fans have been waiting for this: Finally, there’s a first glimpse of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s Netflix documentation. It has long been known that the pair have signed a $1 million deal with the streaming giant. But the couple’s fans waited in vain for content – until now. On Thursday (December 1), Netflix released the first official trailer for the documentary about the lives of Harry and Meghan. And it makes it pretty clear what the movie is about.

Harry and Meghan have repeatedly explained over the past year why they have turned their backs on the British royal family: racism within the royal family, the mistreatment by the British press and concerns about their family’s privacy have led them to take the step. They now seem to want to make that clear again in Netflix’s documentation. The movie is simply titled “Harry & Meghan,” as the 52-second trailer shows.

The trailer initially shows the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in happy moments: Harry and Meghan – both of whom have long since lost official social media accounts – have apparently opened up their private photo album to the filmmakers. The couple beams happily at the camera on selfies and looks relaxed on vacation. But it wasn’t always as easy as life looks for both of them in these photos.

In one photo, for example, Meghan can be seen desperately on a couch, sadly resting her head in her hands. At the same time, Harry explains from the beginning: “Nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors.” An allusion to the fact that the time at the British royal court was anything but easy for the couple?

It is now also clear that the documentary will also be about Harry’s family. Because the trailer also shows pictures of Prince William and Princess Kate, where Meghan and Harry are alone in the background, looking very serious. A clear sign that Harry and Meghan are going to talk about their time in the royal family again in this documentary.

In recent weeks it has been noticed again and again that the Sussexes seemed to follow a very clear strategy. Whether it’s in the various interviews Meghan gave on her podcast “Archetypes” or to announce the release date for Harry’s biography “Spare,” The Sussexes value being able to finally tell their own story.

Feeling mistreated by the British press, Meghan and Harry now want to share their version of events with the world. The Netflix documentation should also help with this. Because in the photos at the end you also see a printing press that probably prints newspapers or magazines – a symbol of the tabloids who gave Harry and Meghan an extremely hard time from the start?

Meghan’s comment suggests it is. You hear her say from the start, “When there’s so much at stake, wouldn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?” Now, judging by the trailer, she and Harry have done just that.

However, Netflix has not yet announced when exactly the documentary will be released. The trailer just says, “Coming soon”.
