As in the Netherlands, Volkswagen is also very popular in Asia. The German manufacturer was even the best-selling car brand in China. Until BYD took over this title last month.
Figures from China Merchants Bank International (CMBI), a major Chinese bank, show that the manufacturer sold 152,863 vehicles in China between November 1 and 27. Volkswagen sold a total of 143,602 vehicles in the country in the same period. Volkswagen was number one in sales in China but is now being dethroned by BYD.
What is BYD?
Maybe you’ve never heard of BYD (Build Your Dreams), or maybe you’ve only seen the brand’s buses driving around. With BYD, another Chinese car brand is entering the European market. Cars have been driving around in Norway for a long time, but you can also order electric cars in the Netherlands.
In fact, the cars are already being offered by the Louwman Group. Autovisie was even able to do a first test drive. In the video below, Jaco Bijlsma takes you on a tour of the Atto 3, the first model on the Dutch market.
In addition to the Atto 3, you can also order the Tang, a large seven-seater SUV. BYD is also coming to the Netherlands this year with its third model: the HAN, a large luxury sedan. You can order the cars in a branch in Amsterdam or at home on the couch with your laptop.
Will Build Your Dreams outperform Volkswagen in the Netherlands?
In China, BYD surpasses Volkswagen and all other brands in terms of sales. At least last month. It remains to be seen whether the brand will also run in the Netherlands and whether the sales figures will continue. But with serious backing from an importer like Louwman, it’s definitely a brand to be reckoned with.
