No tips in these countries

Japan

Tipping in the Land of the Rising Sun is considered an insult. The Japanese have been bred to provide their guests with a first-class service that does not require any compensation beyond the normal fare. However, unlike other countries, it is not illegal to accept tips in Japan.

Chinese

In China, as in Japan, it is unusual to tip in hotels, bars or restaurants. Tipping is not only unusual in China, it can even be considered rude. In some restaurants and bars, it is strictly forbidden for service personnel to accept tips. In fact, tipping is prohibited at many airports.

Thailand

For a long time it was okay to tip in Thailand. It has only become established in some regions with the ever-increasing tourist masses from the West. But tipping is still not expected in many places in Thailand. As a tourist, if you tip too much and give the impression that you are paying, you will even lose all respect for the locals.

Singapore

In Singapore, as in many countries, a 10 percent service charge is already included in bar or restaurant bills. Also, it is not customary to pay another tip. However, if you are so enthusiastic about your service that you will want to leave an additional tip, it is best to do so in cash and directly to the responsible service person.

New Zeland

In New Zealand, tipping is not only unusual, but also not expected of service personnel. If you do, though, you will almost certainly be reminded that a tip is not required. The culture of tipping in New Zealand spread primarily from American visitors who were accustomed to tipping up to 20 percent or more in their home country.
