“I Couldn’t Stop Crying for Days”: Star Raises Anticipation for New Stephen King Adaptation from Mike Flanagan

Mike Flanagan (“The Haunting of Hill House”) is one of the few contemporary filmmakers who, in the opinion of the author of this article, is capable of adequately adapting Stephen King novels for the screen. After “The Game” on Netflix and the “Shining” sequel “Doctor Sleeps Awakening”, Flanagan’s next King film adaptation, “The Life Of Chuck”, awaits us soon (not to mention that this will be in the future will also be King’s Mega – epic “The Dark Tower” needs to be adapted).

“The Life Of Chuck” is a short story published in 2020 in the novella collection “Bloody News”. After actress Kate Siegel already spoke about some apparently quite optimistic aspects of the film, Karen Gillan (“Guardians Of The Galaxy”) is now following suit. Opposite She revealed how incredibly moving the film was:

Karen Gillan is excited – by the film and by Flanagan!

“I saw an unfinished version of ‘The Life Of Chuck’. I couldn’t stop crying for days. But in a good sense. It is a cathartic experience. It’s about someone trying to deal with the end of their life, and it’s told in a very imaginative way. It is awesome. It’s a celebration of life. I think we could all use that.”

For Karen Gillan, it is the second collaboration with Mike Flanagan after “Oculus” in 2013. In the conversation with The “Jumanji” star explained that the director and his way of working haven’t really changed at all over the years: “I didn’t notice much difference. […] It felt the same as before. He’s just the same Mike Flanagan and brilliant, and the movie is just incredible.

A life in 3 chapters

“The Life Of Chuck” tells the life of Charles Krantz in three separate stories – backwards. This means it all starts with his death from a brain tumor at the age of 39 and ends with his childhood in an alleged haunted house.

Joining Kate Siegel and Karen Gillan are Tom Hiddleston (“Avengers: Infinity War”), Mark Hamill (“The Fall of the House of Usher”), Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years a Slave”), Matthew Lillard (“Five Nights At Freddy’s”) also appear”), Jacob Tremblay (“Predator – Upgrade”) and David Dastmalchian (“Oppenheimer”) also participated. It is not yet known when “The Life Of Chuck” will begin. Filming was completed late last year.
