Run over activists? Swiss comedian Zeki polarizes with this video

Whether you hang out on the streets or toss photos in museums – in recent weeks there have been reports from climate activists who want to raise awareness with special campaigns. Their methods are polarizing: While for some the ends justify the means, many argue that such actions by activists would only damage understanding of climate change.

A similar incident recently occurred in German-speaking Switzerland. A week ago, activists of “Switzerland Renovate” in Zurich stuck to the Sihlholzli exit of the A3 and blocked traffic for about half an hour. The action was largely peaceful but still sparked anger among drivers and in media commentary.

This incident also reached the Swiss Instagram community this week. Social media comedian Zeki Bulgurcu posted a video on Thursday titled “The solution to a roadblock”. Together with the three influencers Nathistyle, x._agnes and Wemmse, he pokes fun at the activists in a controversial way.

Bulgurcu, on the road as a truck driver in the video, brakes for the three women, gets out and is annoyed at them. When they then refuse to leave the road, he gets back in his truck and drives on. A bounce means that he rides over the activists played by the influencers.

This video polarizes – also in the comment column. “That’s right, and the matter is settled,” writes one user. Another thinks it is “cool”, after all there are people who have to work. And Voice of Switzerland winner Remo Forrer shows how much he likes the video with three smiling emojis.

For others, however, the skit goes too far. “I find it extremely problematic to post something like this, especially with this reach,” writes one user. Another thinks the action is “completely wrong”. Zeki Bulgurcu did not respond to a request. (dab)
