After the revival of the slasher franchise ‘Scream 5’, the sequel ‘Scream 6’, which soon followed, was also quite a success at the box office, so ‘Scream 7’ was soon a done deal. But the latest installment of the cult series hasn’t had a good star lately.
Not only was lead actress Melissa Barrera, known from the two predecessors, fired for statements about the conflict in the Middle East, but a short time later the busy ‘Wednesday’ star Jenna Ortega also announced her departure. And if that wasn’t enough, director Christopher Landon (“Happy Deathday,” “Freaky”) was also involved, taking over from “Scream 5 & 6” creators Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler. Gillett, the towel.
There were even rumors that the sequel would be canceled, although hopes soon arose that original star Neve Campbell could save the project with her return. And that is exactly what is happening now! Neve Campbell returns to the horror franchise she once helmed as Sidney Prescott in Scream 7. While she appeared in all parts of the series up to “Scream 5”, she was left out of “Scream 6” due to salary disputes. Now, apparently, she got an offer worthy of the series’ flagship.

Kevin Williamson also celebrates his comeback with ‘Scream’
But “Scream” fans have even more reason to be happy. In addition to Neve Campbell, the man who created ‘Scream’ also returns. Kevin Williamsonwho wrote the scripts for the first two parts and ‘Scream 4’, will take the director’s chair for ‘Scream 7’. It will be the first directorial work for the maker of ‘Dawson’s Creek’ since the thriller comedy ‘Kill Mrs. Tingle!’ from 1999. Neve Campbell was overjoyed with the realization of this reunion on Instagram and posted a photo of the script of the upcoming sequel:

It also becomes clear that Williamson leaves the writing to someone else this time. The script was written by “Scream 5 & 6” author Guy Busick, based on a story idea by Busick and James Vanderbilt, who also co-wrote the two predecessors. It is still unclear when “Scream 7” will be released in theaters. Since there is a lot of movement in the horror movie right now, filming could start soon, so a 2025 release is very likely.
