With “Joker 2: Folie À Deux,” one of the most anticipated comic adaptations of them all opens on October 3, 2024. But while some people are looking forward to the sequel to “Joker” with positive curiosity or even euphoria, others are skeptical – share After all, 2 should break new ground with musical elements (and Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn). But the sequel to Todd Phillips’ billion-dollar hit isn’t the only film about Batman’s iconic nemesis that has sparked a lot of discussion lately:
“The Volksjokeris a strange low-budget coming-of-age film that also sees itself as a parody of the Batman universe. And as such, the film isn’t stingy with numerous allusions and references to the Joker and the various incarnations we’ve seen the supervillain in thus far. DC studio Warner therefore suggested that director Vera Drew not show her unauthorized work. The result: After the world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), there were initially no more screenings – and even the trailer disappeared from the internet! However, two years later, things now seem to have calmed down:
The film will be released in US theaters on April 5, 2024 – and not just in New York, as initially thought. Now it’s been revealed that the release will expand nationwide, including screenings at Alamo Drafthouse theaters across the country – including Los Angeles, Texas, Austin, San Francisco, Washington and many other cities! And this is now being appropriately celebrated with a new trailer, which you can find at the top of this article.
Whether and when “The People’s Joker” will also find its way to Germany remains to be seen. However, if we had to take a guess, our prediction would be that a local release will take a while, but it could probably go via streaming.
This is “The People’s Joker”
The film is based on the famous DC character of the Joker, who has already been embodied in cinema by Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger and Jared Leto, among others, but is also peppered with influences from the life of the director, author and leading actress. Vera Drew.
Central to the story is the teenage Joker The Harleyquin, who grows up in Smallville, the birthplace of Clark Kent, learns to love the comedy program on UCB Live in his youth and years later moves to Gotham City to make his dream come true. It is true, to become a comedian yourself. There, the story’s title character is not only confronted with the challenges of the entertainment industry and the humorously hostile Dark Knight Batman, but also increasingly with the idea that he may have been born in the wrong body…
