It was probably one of the greatest tragedies to ever occur on a film set: during the filming of the comic book adaptation ‘The Crow’, lead actor Brandon Lee (son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee) was fatally shot by a movie gun. The dark fantasy adventure was completed in 1994 and became an absolute cult hit over the years, spawning a TV series and three (much less successful) sequels. A new edition was probably only a matter of time…
… and this has actually been happening for over 15 years, with varying participants. In the meantime, stars such as Bradley Cooper, Luke Evans and Jason Momoa, among others, should take on the leading roles. Ultimately, the choice fell on ‘ES’ clown Bill Skarsgård, with whom the project was actually created under the guidance of ‘Snow White And The Huntsman’ and ‘Ghost In The Shell’ creator Rupert Sanders.
The magazine now exclusively has the first photos of the “The crow“Remake released, in which we see Bill Skarsgård for the first time as the new Eric Draven. And his appearance in the role is not only reminiscent of the character’s original design, but in combination with his facial tattoos, a bit of Jared Leto’s controversial Joker from ‘Suicide Squad’:
Rupert Sanders’ new film is a different take on James O’Barr’s source material, but the director also sees it as something of a tribute to the memory of Brandon Lee.
“Brandon was an original voice,” he tells VF. “I hope he is proud of what we have done.”

That’s what ‘The Crow’ is about
Apparently not much was done to the story for the remake of “The Crow”. Here too, rock musician Eric (Skarsgård) and his fiancée Shelly (singer FKA Twigs) are brutally murdered when Shelly’s dark past catches up with her. However, Director Sanders relented to understand that – unlike in the original – this does not happen in the first few minutes, but that we first gain insight into the relationship between the two main characters.
After the tragedy, Eric is caught between the world of the living and the dead and, as an avenging angel, he wants to take merciless revenge on those who killed him and Shelly…
The new adaptation of the 1989 ‘The Crow’ comics, which one of the producers already described as an ‘anti-Marvel film’, will premiere in American cinemas on June 7, 2024. There is currently no German release date yet.but in the end it probably won’t be far off the US date.
