Panamanian artist Dagoberto “Yin” Carrizo received an emotional tribute a few days ago.
The award consisted in the presentation of the book “Singer of the Homeland” and the unveiling of a statue in his honor, for his contribution to art and culture.
In the book “El Cantor de la Patria”, authored by prof Olmedo CarrasquillaCarriz’s biography, artistic career and musical repertoire are compiled.
The work also shows acknowledgments which he received during his musical career, tens of which are dedicated to him and his entire musical repertoire.
Likewise, a 1.80-meter-high statue made of resin and bathed in copper paint, sculpted by the renowned Panamanian plastic master Ricaurte Martínez, was discovered.
“With this recognition Dagoberto ‘Yin’ Carrizo, not only pays tribute to the artist, but also to Panamanian music, giving value to his compositions that are known in various countries of the world. In this way, they will not be lost over time and new generations will be able to enjoy them, keeping the heritage alive and contributing to its development”, said Javier Carrizo Esquivel, General Manager of Banco Nacional de Panama.
“Not everything we recorded in this report is Master Yin’s biography, we also recognize the man who made his native land great, his beloved Ocú,” commented Prof. Olmedo Carrasquilla.
“Viva Panamá”, “Julia” and “Lucy” They became true anthems of typical Panamanian music, thanks to Maestro Carrizo’s distinctive interpretive style. The latter was dedicated to his daughter, reaching number one in the United States, Colombia and Venezuela.
As for the design of the statue, prof. and a sculptor Ricaurte Martínez he commented “I’m a fan of Yin Carrizo’s music, so it was an honor to immortalize him in this statue. “I was inspired by the musical influence of the maestro, with his traditional accordion.”
