‘Music has to be fun to conquer the brain’

Merguero Elvis Crespo assures in an interview for EFE that the music must be “a lot of fun to capture the brain”, and this is demonstrated by the song with the reggaeton singer RKM, in which they combine urban with rhythms other than tropical.

The Colombian singer was joined by Crespo and RKM Jorge Celedón to work together on the single ‘El Hilo’which premieres this Friday and in which they innovated by combining rhythms and incorporating the strings of the ukulele, a small guitar adopted by Hawaiian culture.

“It seemed new to me. I listen to this song as a new and unexpected gift,” Crespo said about the first big project he started in 2024 and which he was invited to by RKM for an album that he hopes will be released soon.

A “different” sound

“Music these days has to be very brain-teasing fun and, Thank God, with this song we achieved a different sound”, added the successful singer of Puerto Rican origin in a video conference call.

The musical basis of ‘El Hilo’, songs released under the label Flash Music by Crespo, It’s reggaeton, although the flute and ukulele strings also predominate, combined with the voices of the three artists.

“I left my comfort zone with the basis of reggaeton, but with ukulele fusionto bring it more into acoustics with urban and vallenato creates pop, which transcends genres,” Crespo pointed out.

“My voice is universal and adapts to rhythms, which I’m putting myself at riskI don’t separate myself into one genre. “I love and am passionate about meringue, it’s what feeds me, but I like to do other things and open other gifts that excite me,” he added.

The concept started at the airport

The idea for ‘El Hilo’ came from RKM last summer when he met Crespo at the airport, according to the Puerto Rican reggaeton player.

There he mentioned the interpreter ‘Por el caminito’, ‘Full moon’ or ‘Your smile’ which had several songs in which I wanted his cooperation.

RKM, the duo partner of fellow reggaeton Ken-Ya, sent Crespo the first proposal last October in the merengue style, but he was not motivated, until the next time, when he heard the ukulele, he was shocked and agreed to record your part.

“Elvis calls me into the camera and tells me: ‘Listen to this.’ And when he sends me the intro and the chorus, it changed everything, it created a frenzy,” RKM recalled of the moment when the song began to take shape.

Crespo, however, felt that something was still missing, so he contacted Celedón, with whom he worked ten years ago, to give it his Colombian touch.

“Everything was so magical and unplanned. Taking advantage of the gift that God gave me ‘Suavemente’ with a song that has the feeling of success, that aroma. You listen to it and it conquers you,” said Crespo, the creator of the aforementioned musical hit. recorded before more than 25 years.

The project is one of the greatest achievements of RKM

For RKM, this collaboration with Crespo and Celedón is “one of the most important achievements” he has achieved in music because it was his own idea that came to fruition.

“What we have is a theme that will touch hearts and that will be passed on from generation to generation,” said José Nieves, the first name of RKM.

“This is one of the steps larger which I gave in music, music with this new stage,” said RKM, who will be touring with Ken-Yo throughout 2024.

In the meantime, it is not strange for Crespo that he recorded a a song with some reggaeton playerhaving collaborated with other renowned urban artists such as Daddy Yankee, Tito ‘El Bambino’, Farruko, Almighty, Khriz y Angel, Alberto Stylee among others in his catalog of hits.

“I feel that there is so much to do… creativity, experience and that everything happens organically,” said Crespo, who always strives for his art to “grow to stay current.”
