The first season of “House Of The Dragon” convinced with an exciting Targaryen story, but also irritated with many jumps in time. About 20 years were packed in one season, the actors changed several times. All this to tell the prequel to the great Targaryen Civil War, “Dance of the Dragons”, from which Season 2 will really start in the first place.
However, we will probably have to wait a little longer for the new episodes. Season 2 has already been confirmed, but filming will not begin until early 2023 in UK film studios and also in Spain, where scenes for King’s Landing will be shot. The recordings will in any case continue until the summer of 2023, after which the long post-production follows. That means we Season 2 of House Of The Dragon with their expected ten episodes, they probably won’t be seen until 2024.
Season 2 is when the Civil War really gets going. Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and her half-brother Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) both claim the Iron Throne and have themselves crowned. Of course, only one faction can rule the Seven Kingdoms – and so the “Greens” behind Aegon and his mother Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and the “Blacks” behind Rhaenyra and her husband Daemon (Matt Smith) will fight for supremacy, not just by gun violence, but also by dragons.
New faces, new places
We have already seen in the last two episodes of the first season that the two sides gather allies for the war. Many famous names fell, such as Stark, Baratheon and Tully – and that means that in season 2 we will also meet many new faces from these houses, for example mentioned Lord Cregan Stark in episode 10 (The character has already been confirmed for the series, but the creators are not yet sure if it will be ready in season 2). So it should then go back to Winterfell.

Overall, there will be a lot more places in “House Of The Dragon” season 2 than in season 1. Showrunner Ryan Condal confirmed this to Variety. A development similar to that of “Game of Thronesgive: As the series progresses, the world of “House Of The Dragon” gets bigger and bigger. We’ll also discover completely new places for series fans: “There will definitely be a lot of new worlds, including some that you didn’t necessarily see in the original series.”
No more cast changes
The main locations would still be King’s Landing, Dragonstone / Drachenstein and Driftmark. And the main characters will remain the same – and most importantly, there should be no recasts in Season 2. There will be brand new characters, but the ones we already know will remain the same for now. Condal attached to deadlinethat from now on the story will be told “in real time”, so without large jumps in time.
By the way, Ryan Condal will be the series’ sole showrunner from season 2. He co-directed season 1 with Miguel Sapochnik, who also directed three episodes, including the episode “Driftmark”, which was heavily criticized for its very dark visuals. Sapochnik will continue as an executive producer for the series.
