One of the biggest blockbusters of the 90s continues after 30 years: first trailer for ‘Twisters’

The 1990s were a golden decade for blockbuster cinema: in addition to ‘Armageddon’, ‘Independence Day’ and ‘Matrix’, ‘Twister’ by ‘Speed’ director Jan de Bont was also released in cinemas in 1996 – and did not improve . only a cult film, but also a real blockbuster. Almost 30 years later we can expect “Twisters“Now a sequel.

As in the original, the female lead will not be Oscar winner Helen Hunt (“It Couldn’t Get Better”), but Daisy Edgar-Jones (“The Song of the Crayfish”). Also on board are Glen Powell (“Where Lies Fall”), Kiernan Shipka (“Totally Killer”), David Corenswet (“Superman: Legacy”), Maura Tiernay (“Emergency Room”) and Anthony Ramos (“Transformers: Rise of the beasts”).

Lee Isaac Chung is responsible for the production of “Twisters”. He was nominated twice for an Oscar for his sensitive drama ‘Minari’ and also directed the third episode of the third season of ‘The Mandalorian’. The script was written by Mark L. Smith (“The Revenant”). It will take some time before ‘Twisters’ can be seen in German cinemas. The blockbuster about natural disasters is scheduled for July 18, 2024.

It remains to be seen to what extent the characters of Helen Hunt and the late Bill Paxton from the first part will still play a role in the sequel. ‘Twisters’ will open a new blockbuster chapter, but that doesn’t mean connections to the original are ruled out. This is probably a so-called requel, which reuses elements from ‘Twister’ in a new context, but still sees itself as a sequel.
