Are you going on a skiing holiday? There is sufficient snow from this height

The sports holidays have started in the first cantons. Many Swiss will be busy with their favorite winter hobby in the near future: dropping off the children at the ski school and relaxing on the sun terrace of the piste restaurant.

Parents of school-age children are therefore concerned about whether there will be enough snow in the holiday home they have booked, so that the children can actually go to ski school.

The short prognosis is: yes, but.

The slightly longer forecast: According to SRF Meteo, there is sufficient snow for winter sports from about 1,500 meters above sea level – in the Western Alps from 1,700 meters, in the Lower Engadine from 1,200 meters.

And in some places you will even find more snow than in recent years. There is currently 460 centimeters of snow on the Säntis – according to SRF, this is about 72 percent more than normal. But the Säntis is only suitable for touring cars.

In short, it is a good time to go on a skiing holiday.

Unless you have booked in lower ski areas. Because there it suddenly turns green (more precisely, gray-brown). Anyone who spends their skiing holiday below 1500 meters has to rely on artificial snow cannons – or resort to an alternative program. Here are a few ideas just in case:
