“We managed to communicate with Slim yesterday evening and continue operations,” Japanese space agency Jaxa said Monday on the X text message service, formerly Twitter.

Slim – short for “Smart Lander for Lunar Exploration” – touched down on the moon more than a week ago. After two failed missions, Japan succeeded in landing on the moon on its third attempt. Previously, only the United States, the Soviet Union, China and India had successfully landed on the moon.

However, after landing, there were problems with the power supply provided by solar cells, so the space probe had to be shut down. However, before the shutdown, the control center in Japan was able to download data and photographs recorded and taken during the descent and after landing on the lunar surface.
