“I’m completely exhausted”: New horror shocker is too difficult even for its stars – but while part of the audience flees, the rest is excited

Such as the industry magazine According to reports, something was going on at the world premiere of the horror film “Presence” at Sundance. So Some of the audience left the cinema. Someone muttered, “I can’t handle that much stress this late at night.” But that was only a small part of the audience present. The majority stayed and the majority were probably enthusiastic.

The cast of the film was also present at the premiere and was probably quite tense and carried away during the film itself. According to Variety, lead actress Lucy Liu told the audience after the screening: “I’m completely exhausted. My body reacts as if I’m not in the movie.”

A horror film from the mind’s perspective: This is “Presence”

At first glance, “Presence” seems like the usual haunted house horror. A family (consisting of Lucy Liu and “This Is Us” stars Chris Sullivan as parents and Callina Liang and Eddy Maday as children) move into a new home. Everyone has their concerns. The parents’ divorce is in the air and the teenage daughter must deal with the death of a close friend due to an overdose. But they are not the only ones in their possession. A ghost is watching them…

The special thing about ‘Presence’ is that the director constantly experiments with genres and stylistic devices Steven Soderbergh shot the entire film from this ghost’s perspective. So we always see what’s happening through their eyes. Bee You’re sure this will be a source of much discussion if the film is released regularly: “There will be a lot of talk about where this film falls on the scale of holy horror,” it reads.

“Funny and disturbing”?

“Presence” was probably very well received by the audience at Sundance – with the exception of those who couldn’t handle it and left the theater. There is currently mainly good to very good feedback. On the summary collection page 19 reviews have already been registered – all positive.

“A funny, disturbing and clever genre exercise” is what one review says. On the website give in the meantime Currently, 73% of public votes have a rating of at least 3.5 stars — though some point out that the disturbing experiment is sure to offend a lot of people (as the early-leaver viewers at Sundance demonstrate).

It is not yet known when and how “Presence” will come to Germany.
