Gastro ranking: These Swiss cities have the best vegan offerings

Vegan cuisine is diverse – this is also reflected in the increasing number of vegan restaurants in Switzerland. But the offer is not the same everywhere: these Swiss cities offer the best range of plant-based food.

Vegan or not – if you are interested in vegan food, read on now: The Swiss Vegan Society has conducted an analysis of the vegan gastronomic offer in Swiss cities using the directories of happycow.net and veganaut.net. This is what came out of it.

Bern offers 13.3 restaurants the most vegan options per 10,000 inhabitants. This makes the federal capital the leader of all Swiss cities. With around 178 restaurants, Bern offers a wide range of plant-based food, seven of which are even purely vegan.

You can also find a vegan paradise in Zurich. Just behind Bern is the largest Swiss city 12.8 restaurants a wide range of plant-based options per 10,000 inhabitants. In absolute figures, Zurich is even ahead of Bern: with 542 restaurants, the city of Limmat has a huge vegan offering, of which 17 restaurants are purely vegan.

Aarau is not to be underestimated. There is 11.5 Restaurants per 10,000 inhabitants. By comparison, Aarau is twenty times smaller than Zurich and yet offers no fewer than 25 restaurants.

Of 10.7 Restaurants per 10,000 inhabitants, Basel also shows that the city has many options when it comes to plant-based eating. In absolute numbers, Basel achieved the second best result with 186 restaurants.

Even in Lucerne, no vegan living person has to go hungry: the city does 10.5 Restaurants per 10,000 inhabitants and offers meat alternatives with 87 restaurants.

Not only the major Swiss cities have a lot to offer when it comes to vegan food: there are a total of 19 vegan restaurants in Davos. The famous holiday destination has that 17.8 Restaurants per 10,000 inhabitants offering vegan options. This makes Davos the best of the small towns.

Of 14.3 Restaurants per 10,000 inhabitants, Baden is also surprising. Approximately 28 locations have at least one vegan menu on the menu.

The town of Solothurn is also making a name for itself with its vegan offering and has 19 restaurants offering plant-based alternatives. That is per 10,000 inhabitants 11.3 Restaurants.

Outside of German-speaking Switzerland, Locarno has some highlights when it comes to plant-based food. Vegan dishes can be ordered in 19 restaurants. Just behind Solothurn is the town of St. Ursen 11.2 Restaurants few plant-based alternatives per 10,000 inhabitants.

In Wallisellen, the Glatt shopping center and the neighboring Richti Quarter in particular have some eateries with vegan options. This is how you find each other 9.3 Restaurants per 10,000 inhabitants. With no fewer than 16 surprising restaurants, the Wallisellen conurbation also has a lot to offer.

In the major cities there is a wide culinary offering and a diverse range of vegan restaurants. But even in most small towns, finding plant-based dishes is no longer a problem these days.
