For a long time, Kanye West was a prominent figurehead of the luxury label Balenciaga along with his ex Kim Kardashian. The rapper worked closely with creative director Demna Gvasalia and even created a clothing line with him. Last month, the rapper appeared as a model for Balenciaga at the Paris show.
Now the fashion brand has ended its partnership with Kanye West and is publicly distancing itself from him. “Balenciaga no longer has a relationship with this artist and there are no plans for future projects,” the website “WWD” quoted luxury group Kering, to which the Paris-based brand belongs.
Images of the music superstar, who now calls herself Ye, were no longer visible on Balenciaga’s website on Thursday. The reason for this move: several controversial actions with which the 45-year-old caused a stir in the recent past.
Kanye West was recently restricted from using well-known online networks due to posts classified as anti-Semitic. He also appeared at Paris Fashion Week in early October for his brand Yeezy wearing a shirt labeled “White Lives Matter”, classified as racist. The slogan “Black Lives Matter” had become famous in demonstrations against racism and police brutality against blacks in the United States.
In a podcast, Kim Kardashian’s ex is also alleged to have claimed that African-American George Floyd was not asphyxiated by a police officer, but died of drugs. His family then sued him for $250 million.
