The film adaptation of the most successful video game of all time is taking shape: Jack Black joins the cast

“Minecraft” has now sold more than 300 million units across all possible platforms – an almost unbelievable number that makes the video game the best-selling and therefore most successful video game title of all time. It’s no surprise that a screen adaptation of the hit gaming hit has been in the works for a while now.

Warner Bros. recognized the title’s potential early on, and so the studio secured the rights to the video game in 2014. But it took a long time before the implementation really got going. With Jason ‘Aquaman’ Momoa, a leading actor for the ‘Minecraft’ film was introduced in April 2022, but since then the project has gone very quiet again.

However, there is now remarkable casting growth. At Jason’s side now was Momoa Jacket black (“Jumanji”) confirmed for the “Minecraft” implementation.

Jack Black is the perfect choice

Musician and actor Jack Black could be an absolute hit with the cast, as the veteran Hollywood star is known for his blockbuster experience and is also very familiar with the gaming scene.

Most recently, Black appeared in the mega-successful video game adaptation “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” as the evil giant lizard Bowser. The actor is also a passionate gamer himself. For example, in 2023 he co-wrote one of the most beautiful video game anthems of recent years with his ‘Tenacious D’ partner Kyle Gass and published an absolutely brilliant video about it, which we have embedded for you here:

Even if the plot is still kept secret, it will be have discovered that Jack Black would be playing a character named Steve. In addition to singing actors Black and Jason Momoa, “Wednesday” star Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks (“Peacemaker”) and Sebastian Eugene Hansen (“Lisey’s Story”) will also be in front of the camera for “Napoleon Dynamite” director Jared Hess .

“Minecraft” is currently set to hit German cinemas on April 3, 2025.
