South Korean actor Lee Sun Kyun, who starred in the 2019 Oscar-winning film “Parasite,” has been found dead, according to media reports. Police initially found a man unconscious in a car in a park in the capital Seoul, South Korean broadcasters and national news agency Yonhap reported on Wednesday. He was later identified as the 48-year-old actor. The police have not ruled out suicide.
According to reports, police received a distress call in the morning (local time) that Lee had left some sort of suicide note before leaving the house. Lee was recently investigated on suspicion of illegal drug use.
Lee was already a well-known actor in his home country before the worldwide success of ‘Parasite’. Director Bong Joon Ho’s social satire ‘Parasite’ won four Oscars in 2020, for direction, screenplay, best foreign-language film and in the top category ‘Best Film’. Never before has the top honor gone to a film made in a language other than English. (sda/dpa)
