Does the Harry Potter prequel series end early? Fantastic Beasts 4 update doesn’t bode well

Does the Harry Potter prequel series end early? Fantastic Beasts 4 update doesn’t bode well

There should be five “Fantastic Beasts” movies, three of which we’ve already seen. But there have been rumors for some time that the series will end prematurely and that part 4 and part 5 will not be made after all. Because the prequel series “Harry Potter” has not only dealt with scandals involving Johnny Depp, JK Rowling and Ezra Miller in the past, but also with declining viewership.

After “Fantastic Beasts 3: Secrets of Dumbledore” launched on April 7, 2022, it’s about time the first information about “Fantastic Beasts 4” got out. When will it be filmed? Who’s playing? Because if you wanted to bring part 4 to the cinema two years after the start of part 3, then it would have to go slowly, after all, the filming and post production takes a while. But even lead actor Eddie Redmayne, who plays the magizoologist Newt Scamander, doesn’t know anything about a fourth film yet…

In an interview with indie wire Redmayne was asked if he could provide an update and information about Fantastic Beasts 4: “I don’t have it. This is probably more of a question for JK Rowling, [Regisseur] David Yates and Warner. But unfortunately I don’t know anything. I can not help it. But I like to play Newt, he’s a nice guy.”

That doesn’t exactly suggest that “Fantastic Beasts 4” is already in the pipeline. Still, Redmayne replied that he didn’t know anything about it, not that he couldn’t say anything—which is often the case. Of course, it’s still possible that Redmayne is just keeping a low profile. But more likely, the sequel is actually on the brink, as the industry has long suspected.

“Fantastic Beasts 3” would be a fitting conclusion

That doesn’t necessarily mean that “Fantastic Beasts 4” and “Fantastic Beasts 5” really aren’t coming anymore. But Warner Bros. is not sure enough about the matter to have already given the green light. There may be some thought in the background about how the series can still be saved – or the plug is actually pulled.

In any case, “Fantastic Beasts 3: Dumbledore’s Secrets” seems to have been deliberately designed so that the part could also work as the end of the series. Rather than a major cliffhanger that makes curious about the next part, the movie finale presented the conclusion of many important storylines.
