Officially confirmed: one of horror cinema’s nastiest serial killers is returning in a sequel

In 2009’s ‘Orphan – The Orphan’, apparent orphan Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman) celebrated her debut in horror cinema and instantly became an iconic villain. Because anyone who has seen the Jaume Collet-Serra-directed film (“The Jungle Cruise”) knows that the nine-year-old girl is not what she claims to be. ‘Orphan’ now enjoys cult status among genre fans.

It was therefore not surprising that ‘Orphan: First Kill’ was followed by a sequel, albeit only 13 years after the popular first film. The prequel, which once again put Esther at the center of the action, also proved quite a success at the box office and cemented the pseudo-orphan’s status as one of the nastiest characters in contemporary horror films. Now a new “orphan” chapter awaits us.

“Orphan 3” is coming!

Director William Brent Bell, who directed “Orphan: First Kill,” said in an interview with the confirms that work on “Orphan 3” has officially begun: “We are currently developing a third part. The rules of the franchise have been expanded, so that anything is now possible. And knowing where we currently are in the process, I’m extremely excited about the twists and turns that await us.”

It’s safe to assume that Isabelle Fuhrman will reprise the role of Esther, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Since “Orphan: First Kill” was visually very different from its predecessor, you can also hope for “Orphan 3” that William Brent Bell will once again inject new impulses and ideas into the franchise. It is not yet known when filming will start and when the film will be released.
