Indiana Jones had disappeared from cinemas for a decade after his final crusade, when Brendan Fraser took over as Rick O’Connell in 1999. Although not a completely worthy successor to the legendary archaeologist, the cinema hit “The Mummy” was definitely a humorous adventure film. The formula of pseudo-historical nonsense, breathless treasure hunts, and surprisingly grotesque spikes of violence may not work as well here as it does in the best Indiana Jones films, but anyone who was a teenager in 1999 didn’t have a new Indy movie. movie to watch and just got up instead of going to the grave with the CGI mummy.
Indy replacement for mummy fans and millennials
‘The Mummy’ received two sequels before a new mummy film starring Tom Cruise was released to the world in 2017 but was largely ignored by audiences. Only the 1999 film is still really popular today. The clips of “The Mummy” on YouTube are full of comments from people who remember watching and coming to love the summer blockbuster as a teenager.
This very loose remake of Boris Karloff’s 1932 horror classic didn’t do particularly well with critics, but it’s undoubtedly a special film: it lived here shortly before ‘X-Men’ and ‘Spider-Man’ ushered in the dominance of superhero films . once again successfully brings 80s adventure cinema to life – albeit with computer effects that were real eye-catchers at the time (and have unfortunately aged as poorly as an un-mummified corpse today).
The story of “The Mummy”
This would probably have happened to the clumsy Indiana Jones: During excavations in Egypt, American archaeologist Richard “Rick” O’Connell (Fraser) accidentally awakens an anciently cursed high priest, who initially walks through the area as a decomposed one. corpse and then sucking out several people looks like old times. Rick, his colleague Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) and her brother Jonathan (John Hannah) now try to put the evil and deadly mummy back in the grave.
