Fonseca closes 2023 on a high note with a new Latin Grammy

Colombian Fonseca closes this 2023 in style after receiving the eighth Latin Grammy of his career for ‘Si tú me Quiero’, performed in duet with his ‘master’ Juan Luis Guerra, thanks to the success of his ‘Viajante Tour’ and for the release of his new single, ‘Canto a la vida’.

In an interview with EFE, the 44-year-old singer-songwriter admits that he is living a special and emotional professional moment, so in that sense, the release of his latest single, a song in which he expresses gratitude for everything, on November 10 could not be more timely than what he experienced, as he explained .

A special moment this year was the award given to him by the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, in the category of ‘Best Tropical Song’, during the Latin Grammy Awards ceremony held on November 16 in Seville, Spain.

“Every time I received a Latin Grammy A new door opened for me. But this has an additional component, which is winning alongside one of my great idols and one of my great references in life, which is the teacher Juan Luis Guerra. And that meant a lot,” said the man from Bogota in Miami, in the south of Florida (USA).

He pointed out that Dominican music followed him “from an early age.” “I remember those first parties, dancing, singing and dedicating Juan Luis’ songs. But being a musician and a composer, his way of saying things had a big impact on me,” he said.

“And his music, which is truly a work of art. What he did with merengue, with bachata, even with pop, is very inspiring. He created a world around his music that has such a unique and singular stamp that it is a huge inspiration for every musician,” he added.

The composer stated that ‘If you love me’, a song that sings about love and dreams under a tropical melody, already occupies a “very important place” in his career.

“I’m sure it’s one of those songs that will always be part of my live repertoire. It is one of those medals that a person hangs on himself and that will always be there. “I think it will be some of the most recognizable songs in my career,” he said.

‘If you love me’, with which Fonseca wrote Yoel Henríquez (Puerto Rico) and Yadam González (Cuba), It is the first single from the singer’s next album, which he announced will have a “very tropical sound, very organic, very woody, guitar-like, more acoustic than electric”.

An amazing year

In the second single, “Song of Life”, Fonseca he sings of memories of life, love, family and friends, always projecting his mix of happy and folkloric rhythms.

Wrote “I sing to life” with Venezuelans Servando and Yasmila Marrufo, and said the song was released “at that moment when one sits down to be grateful, to think about what a year it was.”

“It’s like a photograph of that moment, when you say, ‘Well, everything is fine and let’s be thankful.’ It’s the ‘Song of Life,'” he said.

As for his current tour, the ‘Viajante Tour’, which has taken him to various cities in Latin America, the United States and Europe for over a year, the singer-songwriter said the results so far have been “unbelievable”.

“It started as a celebration tour 20 years of career, and that’s why all the most important songs of my career are there. But we never imagined it would last so long and take us to so many places,” he admitted.

The following performances of the tour will take place November 29 in West Palm Beach (Florida), November 30 in Tampa (Florida), December 2 in Newark (New Jersey), December 7 in Managua (Nicaragua), December 9 in Guatemala City (Guatemala) and December 29 in Escuintla (Guatemala).

The tour will last until May 4, 2024 with a concert in St. Augustine (Florida).

As we consider the year that is drawing to a close, Fonseca He said it was “amazing”.

“I am very happy about everything that has happened since “If you love me” edition together with Juan Luis, the development of the song, the ‘Viajante Tour’ and now the launch of ‘Canto a la vida’.

The fact that the song “arrives at the end of the year is really an immense joy for me because I think it will be a part of that personal celebration for many people,” he said.
