I dreamed of a beautiful life in Bali. But now I have a nightmare every day,” says Luca Simioni (54), who came to SonntagsBlick from Geneva. The former UBS and LGT banker reported having two business partners in Bali. It involves an alleged massive real estate fraud. Amount of damage: almost ten million francs.

Luca Simioni accuses Italian businessman Valerio Tocci (50) and his wife Fanni Lauren Christie (44) of fraud and forgery. Fanni Lauren Christie is no stranger to Bali: She won the title of Miss Indonesia Friendship in 2002.

The nightmare Simioni refers to involves “The Double View Mansions,” a luxury resort on the Indonesian dream island of Bali. Luca Simioni, together with his colleagues and other investors from Geneva and Valais, invested almost ten million francs in the construction of the property. “I was used like an ATM,” Simioni says.

It is difficult for foreigners to work directly as builders. He trusted the Italian businessman and his Indonesian wife. The deal should be like this: Tocci, his Swiss colleagues and other foreign investors bring in the money that Valerio Tocci and the former Miss Indonesia Friendship used to build the luxury resort. Following the completion of the construction work, the holiday complex would be transformed from a domestic investment company into a foreign investment company.

Will there be support from Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis?

Construction work has progressed as planned, and the resort shows off its best side on its website: the pool, the palm trees, the proximity to the beach – everything that makes Bali fans’ hearts beat faster. But this is not the case with the investors: “Fanni and her husband managed the apartments without involving us,” says Luca Simioni. The developers also refused to transfer the investment company to foreign hands. “As of now, our investment is over. But I trust the Indonesian authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice,” says Luca Simioni. “The Indonesian people have a strong sense of justice. “I’m sure we will get justice.”

Luca Simioni also expects support from Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis (62). The Swiss embassy in Jakarta cannot interfere in Indonesian affairs. “Cassis can make it clear that Swiss investors expect legal certainty and professional judgment,” says Simioni.

Luca Simioni from Geneva still lives in Bali, although he feels unwell from time to time. «I was threatened by unknown persons and had to hire a security service. I’m sure that the two criminals who robbed us are behind this,” says Luca Simioni. The presumption of innocence applies to everyone involved. Valerio Tocci and Fanni Lauren Christie could not be reached for SonntagsBlick.
