Blick reader Rita Maria Pergher can count herself lucky to own Vega-Sicilia Tinto Valbuena 5, a rare Spanish red wine. This is the younger brother of the more famous Vega Sicilia Unico Gran Reserva. In contrast, Valbuena 5 is made from grapes from younger vines and is released to the market a little earlier.
While the 2014 is currently the youngest Vega Sicilia Unico Gran Reserva vintage model available, you can purchase the 2019 Valbuena 5 now. The main ingredient of these Spanish wine pearls is the flagship variety Tempranillo, supplemented by some Carmenère, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Merlot, depending on the vintage. The wines are matured for several years in large oak barrels.
This is the value of the 1992 Vega-Sicilia Tinto Valbuena 5
It’s not like the 1992 Valbuena 5, which received a score of 89 out of 100 from now-retired American wine critic Robert Parker (76), is a great vintage. No Unico Gran Reserva from the 1992 vintage was bottled because the winery was not completely satisfied with the quality of the grapes.
There are currently only five suppliers selling 1992 vintage Vega-Sicilia Tinto Valbuena 5 bottles on the global market. Currently the cheapest offer comes from Germany, with a selling price of 182 francs for a 0.75 liter bottle. The remaining sales prices vary between 236 and 384 francs. However, at this point, the quality of the wine becomes apparent only after it is opened.
