Five men – as is known, Barack Obama’s favorite hamburger chain is coming to German-speaking Switzerland. Carls Jr., another American hamburger chain, is also expanding into Switzerland. The first branch is expected to open in Schaffhausen in December.
Many Swiss welcome this weakening of the dominance of Mac and Burger King, especially as certain foreign restaurant chains bring back fond memories of holidays and stays abroad.
Five men. Carl’s Jr. Okay, but which foreign restaurant chains do we want? Real for Switzerland? Tell us in the comments!
I go ahead and spontaneously think of these Resti necklaces…
They are perhaps the most beautiful restaurant interiors in the world: colorful patterned tiles, murals, vintage posters, flowers, flowers, more flowers. But the food also lives up to what the aesthetics of the establishment promises: super fine Lebanese food, freshly prepared. There are now 19 offices in the UK, plus one in Utrecht, Doha and Dubai. Oh, it would be nice if a few more came to Zurich! Our white girl, a pseudo-Lebanese, could get started right away.
Is this the best pizza in the world? Hmm… unimportant. The pizza is good – there is absolutely nothing to complain about in terms of quality. But in my case, my love for PizzaExpress can be explained purely autobiographically. Founder Peter Boizot was a family friend, as was Enzo Apicella, who was responsible for the artistic design of the restaurants and created the iconic logo, which remains unchanged to this day. The branch on Fulham Road in West London was my favorite restaurant as a child. We went there for a birthday lunch. I remember the huge, colorful wall hangings that looked like targets and the loudness of the spontaneous parties that occurred when my mother’s Italian acquaintances happened to drop by the restaurant. But enough about me, because PizzaExpress is more than a restaurant chain or a historical footnote of the Swinging Sixties. It was these restaurants that were largely responsible for spreading authentic Italian flavors into everyday life north of the Alps. For years there were only a handful of branches, and these were exclusively in London (including iconic eateries like Pizza On the Park on Hyde Park Corner, which was known for its jazz concerts). Today there are more than 500 in the British Isles – and another 100 abroad. Today, as then, it is the perfect restaurant for family lunches (children are given priority). The price-performance ratio is still right. And recently there are really nice cocktails. If there were a few establishments in this country, I would celebrate.
They still have “only” six locations. But TAMMINOMOL, it would be nice if they could expand! Somehow, Bao has cracked the culinary code of preserving the authentic Taiwanese street food taste while presenting the dishes in an urban, hip way. Crispy noodle chips, yellow bean garlic scallop, mapo eggplant chi sang rice …mmh. And diverse baos, those steamed buns with different fillings – everything is tasty and fresh. Oh yes: there are also private karaoke rooms.
Well… and some of my editorial colleagues immediately contacted us with their Resti chain wishes:
