Lubo Lucerne
Contactless, digital, modern and yet with plenty of charm, character and feel-good factors, the new Hotel Lubo in Lucerne’s old town makes itself known. There is no reception, check-in is done online and communication is done through the on-site application. However, if you wish, you can chat with other travelers in the common lounge or sit in the popular Rokka Café & Bar, which is part of the hotel. Croissants and fresh coffee are served here early in the morning. You’ll find Asian street food throughout the day. One look at the cocktail menu invites you to linger a little longer in the evening. Unlike other hotel concepts, Rokka also accepts cash payments – it is also open to non-hotel guests. More information here.
Schilthornhütte Mürren
Schilthornhütte probably has the most beautiful viewing terrace in the entire Bernese Oberland. The perfect place to relax in the sun. Moreover, the hut is one of the jewels that has become an integral part of the Alps. During the winter months, it is located right next to the track and invites skiers to rest and rejuvenate. When it snows, you can sit in the comfortable lounge. It is an ideal resting place for hikers during the summer months. If you want to watch the magnificent sunrise from here with the view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau trio, you should definitely spend the night in Schilthornhütte. During the summer months, you can also enjoy spending the night in a yurt 2,433 meters above sea level. More information here.
Ambassador Hotel Zurich
Perfectly located in the lively Seefeld district of Zurich, not far from the opera house and with views of the shores of Lake Zurich, the Ambassador Hotel reopened in February 2023. The historical building has been completely renovated, the result is impressive. Modernity meets history – this is how the hotel defines its philosophy as “Living History”. The five floors are individually designed and evoke the history of Switzerland’s textile trade with distant countries. An overnight stay in one of the 44 rooms and suites of Hotel Ambassador, one of the world’s elite Small Luxury Hotels, also means traveling back in time to Zurich in the late 19th century. Utoschloss, as the building was originally known at the time, was built by entrepreneur and investor Jakob Lassmann. More information here.
Tiny House Cable Car
The Tiny House Cable Car by Valeria and Adi from the travel blog Littlecity.ch is not entirely new on the market anymore. Since its completion in 2020, it has served as one of the most extraordinary accommodations in Switzerland. But it is their position that is always new. Because it is changed regularly and it is always good for surprises. In 2020 it stood in Piz Nair at 3000 meters above sea level, in 2021 it stood on a rock needle in Engelberg and now it is in Murg am Walensee, right on the beach and once again with an incredible view. It is currently operated by a rooftop hotel. When you make a reservation, you receive an outdoor meal for dinner, such as pasta, fondue or barbecue, which you can prepare yourself. The stay also includes an hour of stand-up paddling and a breakfast basket, so time spent in the sheltered lakeside area can be used and enjoyed to its fullest. More information here.
Holiday in a monument
The Holiday in Architectural Monuments Foundation, established by the Swiss Heritage Association, takes over monuments in disrepair, restores them and offers them to tourism as holiday properties in order to pass these historical buildings on to future generations. Since its founding in 2005, 51 properties have been renovated and transformed. Another property was added in 2022: a typical farmhouse in the Bernese Jura that has been empty for almost 100 years. Thanks to the sensitive work of architect Nathalie Kury, the house was preserved in a very original condition. The renovation of the chapel in Ernen in the canton of Valais is currently underway and can be booked for holiday guests from summer 2023. More information here.
Le Petit Mazot Bed and Breakfast
Located in Noble-Contrée above the Sierre, the small bed and breakfast has been available for reservations since April 2023 and brings together almost everything that captures today’s travel spirit. Small historic warehouse has been comfortably transformed with great attention to detail. It’s the perfect place to take a break from everyday life, take active trips to nature or a change of scenery from the home office. If Petit Mazot is fully booked, Kota B&B in Jura is a great alternative. Modeled on a barbecue hut in Finland, the tiny house is the heartfelt project of Aline and Fred Alfred, who were inspired to create this accommodation throughout all their travels. When they returned to Switzerland, they made their dreams come true. Both accommodations can be booked through Airbnb and are perfect for short breaks. More information here.
Hive Unit Meyrin-Satigny
The name of the Absolutely Different hotel group says it all. Two extraordinary Peanut Lodges in Val-d’Illiez and Saint-Ursanne invite you to very special night experiences. The latter dedicates its decor concept entirely to the Middle Ages. You spend the night here in dealer rooms and rambling cubicles. Whitepod Eco-Luxury Resort, above Monthey with views over the Lower Valais, is also part of the group. White dome tents offer luxury in the great outdoors. There are mainly themed suites such as the “Timeless Suite” designed in collaboration with Audemars Piguet. Another project is planned in partnership with Swiss architecture firm CCHE: The Hive Unit. A modern hotel made of containers in Meyrin-Satigny. More information here.
