Absolutely crazy action fireworks with FSK 18 & lots of superstars on TV today: Brains off, have fun!

Anyone who doesn’t like “Wanted” probably just has a problem with action that puts all the laws of physics through the meat grinder. And the author of this article could understand that all too well, because he himself came out of the cinema in 2008 a little surprised because he didn’t really know how to classify the spectacle, which had no realism whatsoever. Years later he tried again – and he was absolutely thrilled. And this enthusiasm continues to this day.

Because ‘Wanted’ offers pure escapism – and therefore has more in common with current Indian blockbusters a la “RRR” or “Jawan“ in common than with Hollywood productions, which are often cropped for realism. And that is not only completely fine, but in this case also completely faithful to the original. After all, the film by ‘Watchman of the Day’ and ‘Watchman of the Night’ maker Timur Bekmambetov is also based on a comic strip – in which the matter is completely exaggerated. Once you get that clear, ‘Wanted’ is a completely new experience that pushes boundaries – and at the same time radiates plenty of fun, inventiveness and madness.

On power

Have you never seen the humorous, brutal action thriller or do you want to give it a second chance after all these years? Then tonight you have the opportunity to do this: VOX is showing “Wanted” today, November 9, 2023 from 10:55 PM.

But please note: due to the FSK-18 rating, the film may only be shown in full length from 11 p.m. It’s only about five minutes long, but today’s broadcast only shows a version that has been shortened by a whopping four minutes and approved for ages 16 and up.

If you want to experience the film in full, you can currently switch to Netflix: you can stream ‘Wanted’ there until November 15.

“Wanted”: Super stylish, mega brutal shooting orgy with special effects

That’s what it’s about: Almost nothing in the life of Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy) goes as he imagines. His tyrannical boss makes his already boring office job a living hell, he is broke and his girlfriend is cheating on him, especially with his best friend (Chris Pratt). But one day the mysterious Fox (Angelina Jolie) comes into his life, just as Wesley gets involved in a gunfight!

Fox and Sloan (Morgan Freeman) finally explain to him who was behind the sudden hail of bullets: the man who killed Wesley’s father (Thomas Kretschmann) – and is now targeting him too! So Wesley quickly decides to join Fox and Sloan’s brotherhood to train as an assassin – and avenge his father’s death.

‘Wanted’ is set entirely in the 2000s – with everything that entails. Whether you accept the humor as vulgar and infantile or simply brutal and outrageous is a matter of type, as is the nu-metal-tinged soundtrack, the candy-colored color grading or the over-stylized visual effects – which simply look excellent. Even if it’s not realistic. But like I said, you don’t have to.

Because The film is always most fun when it gets going – because it really captures the imagination while other blockbusters had long since pulled the handbrake. Here bullets drill through skulls in super slow motion, fly around the walls of houses and cause all kinds of chaos you can imagine.

Of course you should be able to do that. But Anyone who doesn’t care about realism in action films or likes to use them to escape reality will definitely find what they’re looking for here. And the fact that the cast around James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman and Thomas Kretschmann also shines does not need to be elaborated on at this point – no matter how much ‘Wanted’ gives the impression of a huge B-movie spectacle, so much Ensemble cinema is also included in him.
