Literature: Horror titles by Panamanian writers

Whether you celebrate “Halloween” or not, it’s the perfect time to read horror literature, there are a variety of options, or to pick up a book you haven’t finished.

Writers like Stephen King and Edgar Allan Poe are two of the greatest exponents of horror literature, and several of their titles have even been adapted for the big screen.

At the domestic level, there are also numerous proposals from domestic writers, below we present a selection of horror titles that you could read this season.

‘Fear Hour: Horror stories that will keep you awake’

Wendy Barsallo’s 2022 publication is a collection of short stories that “feed on people’s natural fears of the unknown, and especially of cruel death.”

“Shadows of Redemption” (Rolando Santamaría)

‘The Exorcist of Vacamonte’

Journalist Fígar Ábrego’s two-volume work tells the story of priest José Carlos Gerber (a fictional character inspired by Panamanian priests David Cosco and Reynaldo) fighting against demons.

‘The Curse of Hollow Creek and Other Stories: Tales of Horror’

A compilation of 15 horror stories, based on the most popular legends of Panama and the world, in addition, Florentino Hidalgo, author of the publication and winner of the Tristán Solarte Award 2020, included his short novel “The Curse of Hollow Creek” as a supplement.

“Holy Asylum” (Miguel Esteban)
