October has a lot in store for film and series fans on Amazon Prime Video and boasts a whole range of genres and franchises that we have been eagerly awaiting in streaming. In the foreground is ‘Matrix Resurrections’, which we can welcome to the program from October 16, alongside the original ‘Matrix’ trilogy (which will be available from October 13). The infamous sequel to the cult series with Keanu Reeves was one of the science fiction highlights of the 2021 cinema year and sparked plenty of conversation among old and new fans.
No less highly anticipated was “Top Gun: Maverick”, which we could only see on the big screen last year. Tom Cruise will also be available for free streaming for Prime subscribers for the first time from October 16, returning to the pilot costume and his cult character Maverick that made him famous in the mid-80s. The action spectacle not only hit the box office, but also delighted many critics and our FILMSTARTS editors, who gave the blockbuster no less than four out of five stars.
However, October would be nothing without a few decent horror films. Fortunately, the month on Amazon Prime Video is framed by two of the most famous horror series. Immediately on October 1st we will get the two “Carrie” shockers back in the license catalogue. Shortly before Halloween we can also look forward to the three films from the series “The Purge” (from October 23).
If you don’t like things that intense and prefer to be scared by psychological thrillers instead of outright horror, you can look forward to the first season of the Amazon original series “The Therapy” at the end of October. The series, based on the bestseller by Sebastian Fitzek, can be streamed on the platform from October 26 with its six episodes and is once again a German own production that has everything in house.
Also worth mentioning is the original drama “The Burial” (from October 13) from Amazon, with a real star cast with Tommy Lee Jones and Jamie Foxx. Jamie Foxx is hired as a charismatic lawyer by the ‘Men in Black’ star, who plays a grumpy mortician. The unlikely pair must work together to ensure justice – and a few laughs for us too.

Last but not least, ‘Red Rocket’ (from October 30) from celebrated ‘The Florida Project’ director Sean Baker and festival favorite ‘Holy Spider’ (from October 3) are two indie gems we recommend. Both visually and aurally. impressive David Bowie documentary ‘Moonage Daydream’ (from October 20) is not just for music lovers.
