Another setback for Dwayne Johnson: The superstar’s next heart project will not be continued

Virtually every star can look back on one or the other flop in their career. However, if these setbacks occur in the short term and then also affect projects that have been worked on with heart and soul, it is very bitter. Action star and film maker Dwayne Johnson is now facing such a setback.

In 2022, he already made himself famous with his debut as the DC anti-hero “Black Adam”, which he himself passionately promoted for 15 years (!). The comedy extravaganza was critically acclaimed and also proved to be a financial disappointment for Warner and DC (the initially solid-sounding global box office of nearly $400 million should not have been enough to cover the horrendous production and advertising costs). So “Black Adam 2” is off the table and otherwise there seems to be no place for the title character in James Gunn’s upcoming new DCU.

And now another Dwayne-Johnson project is ahead, which was perhaps even more important for the giant, after all, nothing less than his personal life story is told here: The comedy seriesYoung Rockwas canceled early after the third season. The American trade journals report this unanimously.

In addition to co-creating and producing Young Rock, Dwayne Johnson also played a central role in the series. In a fictional setting of the near future, the actor and ex-wrestler looks back on his life as part of his US presidential campaign. Played by several younger actors, the charmer is shown here in his childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood.

In Germany, “Young Rock” can be seen exclusively on Sky and its streaming service WOW. The third season is also running here, the finale of which (which is now also the series finale) will be released tomorrow, June 14, 2023.

The Rock returns to Fast & Furious

Fans who are now seriously concerned about Dwayne Johnson’s career can be reassured. The still in-demand Hollywood star has plenty of other projects in the pipeline (including a live-action Moana, Disney adventure sequel Jungle Cruise, and the Netflix hit Red Notice).

But many will probably be particularly excited about his true “Fast & Furious” comeback, which was only teased at the end of “Fast & Furious 10”. After a feud with franchise star Vin Diesel seemed like such a return was impossible, The Rock’s character Luke Hobbs is now getting a new spin-off of his own and could also appear in Fast & Furious 11. Whether his recent failures have anything to do with this unexpected turn of events is anyone’s guess. The fact is that many fans should be happy with it. And that’s what it’s all about in the end.
