“Leprechaun 9” is coming: like the US industry magazine reports that Studio Lionsgate is currently working on another installment of the long-lived slasher series, which began in 1993 with “Leprechaun – The Killer Goblin” and has since had seven sequels. The latest entry in the horror comedy franchise is 2018’s Leprechaun Returns.
In the first six movies – i.e. “Leprechaun” and its sequels “Leprechaun 2”, “Leprechaun 3”, “Leprechaun 4: In Space” aka “Space Platoon”, “Leprechaun In The Hood” and “Leprechaun: Back 2 Tha Hood ” ) – “Star Wars” icon Warwick Davis played the eponymous goblin who terrorizes a family in part 1 in search of his stolen gold, but later also has adventures in space (a nice slasher tradition).
In “Leprechaun: Origins” from 2014 and “Leprechaun Returns” from 2019, the actor, also known for “Willow”, was no longer there and again writes, Warwick Davis shouldn’t be in the ninth “Leprechaun” movie either. And that fits with what else is known about the project:
“Leprechaun 9” will be a (again) reboot
How at namely, while “Leprechaun” is the longest-lived franchise in Lionsgate history, Part 9 should not necessarily build on the previous films, but be a new beginning. The studio wants to reinvent “Leprechaun” for a new generation of viewers and republish it (in English, the word “reimagine” is used here, which is often used in such cases and is difficult to translate).
Exactly what that means remains to be seen for now, but it’s conceivable that “Leprechaun 9” will try to be a little more considerate and consider the roots of the title character, who originally comes from Irish mythology.
From the “Barbarian” producers
According to the current status, four people are responsible for this: like him writes, newcomer Felipe Vargas will direct “Leprechaun 9”, who has already gained genre experience with his short horror film “Milk Teeth”. Stand next to him Roy Lee a very experienced producer who has produced countless horror films, starting with The Ring – about “IT” And “IT: Chapter 2” or “barbarians“, which is probably THE horror highlight of 2022.
Also on board are Lee’s fellow producer Miri Yoon (“The Mother”) and screenwriter Mike Van Waes, who most recently worked on Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch” remake and also scripted the “Conjuring” spin-off “The Crooked Man”. “. ” wrote.
It is not yet known when “Leprechaun 9” will appear.
