The Panama Under-20 Women’s National Team ended their participation in the Concacaf Under-20 Championship on Tuesday, when they were defeated 4-1 by Jamaica, in a match played at the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium in the city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
It was a very physical and fighting game in the middle of the field, where the Jamaican women knew how to take advantage of the opportunities they had, especially in the first half in which they even saw a goal three times. Goals came from Natoya Akinston in the 16th minute, Davie Richards from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute and Maya Raghunandanan in the 37th minute.
In the second half, those led by Raiz Gutiérrez started more aggressively and wanted to reduce the deficit. Despite this, in 74′ the Jamaican Amelia Van Zaten would score a penalty for 4:0.
It wasn’t until 79′ that Meredith Rosas scored a penalty for Panama, also from the penalty spot.
With this result, Jamaica remained in third place in Group A, while Panama was last.
On the other hand, the USA defeated Canada 5-2 in the second hour and confirmed the first place in the group.
The semifinals of the Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship will be played next Friday, June 2 at the Félix Sánchez Stadium, and will determine the first two national teams that will qualify for the next World Cup.
On the other hand, the third quota will be defined on Sunday, June 4, when the third and fourth place of the competition will be played.
Dayane Madrid: “Maybe it didn’t go the best way, but that remains from the experience.”
“I feel like we played with great strengths in women’s soccer and I think the effort we put in is pretty rewarding.”
“We had to understand the game, understand what was going on.”
Aaliyah Gil: “We knew it was going to be a super tough match, but we fought until the end and never gave up.”
“I had a very nice experience. I have two pre-world championships, I never got the chance to qualify, but I hope to get it later”.
