Inditex is making progress in its environmental strategy. After the Galician textile giant signed a cooperation agreement with the Circ company a few months ago, this association has now borne its first fruits. Zara has just launched its first collection made from recycled materials made from textile waste made from a blend of polyester and cotton, the collection can be found by customers starting today in physical stores and on the website.
“Zara and Circ therefore face one of the most important challenges in the fashion industry: separation of polyester and cotton fibers to develop new recycled raw materials to create new garments,” Inditex summarizes in a press release. In this way, Circo’s innovative recycling technology has made it possible for the first time to separate combined polyester and cotton fibers and restore the two components. S with these new materials, a collection of garments made of lyocell, in which 50% of the fibers come from polycotton waste, has been created, in addition, garments of polyester have been created, the material of which is made with 43% textile waste.
The The collection basically consists of four garments. Short, long pants, long blouse and top. They are all around 40 euros.
The most visible result that customers will be able to find is a collection of fluid and light garments in burgundy tones, designed to be recycled again at the end of the life cycle: «We believe that our alliance with Zara could mean a truly transcendental change in the vision that consumers have about sustainability in the fashion industry”, explains Peter Majeranowski, CEO of Circ, who also adds: “This is the first time that garments made from recycled polyester and lyocell from polycotton waste are in the hands of consumers. We are taking important steps to make circularity the new standard in the textile industry. IN Circ and Zara are committed to a new future in which all the garments that are part of our wardrobes come from recycled materials and can be recycled.
“This collection is the best example that innovation and research of new fibers and collaboration with experts are two fundamental pillars for continued progress in circularity within the textile industry. Circo’s technology opens the door to the separation and recycling of one of the most common mixtures in our sector. We want to lead the transformation of our sector by creating fashion proposals from circularity”, explains Javier Losada, director of sustainability at Inditex.
