More than 2.8 million passengers mobilized Tocumen International Airport during the first two months of 2023, 67% were connecting passengers.
He Institute of Statistics Panama’s main airport confirmed 2,863,751 passengers, a total of 1,347,326 corresponding to the month of February, a result that is in line with projections, according to General Manager Raffoul Arab.
“We are seeing consolidation in the recovery of the passenger and air cargo industry,” Arab said. However, he believes that we still need to focus on opportunities and administrative discipline.
“The volatile global macroeconomic environment defines the development of the market and airlines”he showed.
Tocumen International Airport estimates that it will exceed 17 million passengers this year in 2023, after two years of industry impacts as a result of the covid-19 pandemic.
In terms of international connections, Tocumen maintained direct flights to 83 destinations in February, via 17 commercial airlines offering services to major cities in the Americas and Europe. 10,655 aircraft movements were managed.
The markets with the highest regional movement in February were South America with 44%, followed by North America with 28%, the Caribbean with 11%, while Central America contributed with 10% and European markets with a share of 7%.
Meanwhile, the cargo terminal mobilized 15,272 metric tons of goods during the second month of 2023.
Regional terminals PAnamá Pacífico, Enrique Malek, Scarlett Martínez and Enrique A. Jiménez, operated by Tocumen, SA recorded traffic of 65,707 passengers and 1,835 aircraft operations in February.
Panama Pacific recorded the largest movement with 35,491 passengers processed; the domestic terminal operating at Terminal 2 handled 13,632 passengers.
