The facilities will require an investment of 380 million, and will be built on land belonging to the 15 municipalities of A Coruña, Lugo and Ourense

The Xunta declared a priority business initiative 13 wind farms in regional jurisdiction. The facilities will total 356 megawatts of power. Twelve facilities will supply electricity alcoa plant and the rest to that company cortisone. The facilities are promoted by the companies Greenalia Wind Power (11 wind farms), Iberdrola and Enel Green Power. It will be built on land, some of which will be shared, in the municipalities of Friol, A Pastoriza, A Fonsagrada, Baleira, Becerreá, Navia de Suarna, Baralla and Meira in the province of Lugo; Oza-Cesuras, Aranga, Coirós, Vimianzo and Zas in A Coruña; and Calvos de Randín, Baltar, Os Blancos, Laza and Vilar de Barrio, in Ourense. Its construction will require a total investment of HRK 380 million.

The declaration of primacy will mean that the existing procedures for the construction of parks will be reduced by half, although all legal guarantees are ratified during the process. The Xunta adopted this figure to make it easier for the community to collect investments when it comes to projects of public interest. In the case of wind farms, the Galician government relied on regulations that allow this condition to be imposed on plants that allocate at least half of their production to a specific industry, he explained. Alfonso Rueda.

The mentioned parks are autonomous initiatives. The Xunta also gave the green light to another 13 that the Government is processing and that are also intended for industry.

Meeting with Alcoa

The president of the Galician government also announced a “contact meeting” with the president of Alcoa in Spain, Miguel Lopez-Quesadawho asked maintaining activities and employment in the San Cibrao factory. The meeting took place yesterday, after a press conference where he described the deals made by the Xunta council, including prioritizing wind farms.

Rueda reminded that electro-intensive industries in Spain have to face energy prices much higher than those in other European countries, which poses a threat to their competitiveness. The solution, the head of the Xunte reminded, depends on the powers of the state, which is why López-Quesada offered his support to demand a reduction in prices.
