Afutpa condemns the suspension of the women’s league in Panama

The Association of Professional Football Players of Panama (AFUTPA) he condemned the cancellation of the tournament this Thursday Women’s Football League (LFF) and called it a “premeditated, unscrupulous and irresponsible decision”.

“We call this action a premeditated, unscrupulous and irresponsible decision towards a group of soccer players who, with their recent work, contributed to the debut of the Panamanian women’s soccer team at the World Cup. After that, today they are turning their backs and stealing their ball,” reads the statement published by Afutpa.

last wednesday, Panama Football League (LPF) and directors of 10 clubs LFF, decided to end the tournament, claiming that the “unfavorable circumstances that the country is going through”, entered into a crisis due to the popular rejection of the mining contract, and that “the safety and integrity of the players, some of them minors” did not allow the tournament to take place.

“We deeply regret this situation that affected the normal development of the tournament, limiting it to just two days,” the league announced last Wednesday.

Regarding this statement, Afutpa took the opportunity and asked for a league in accordance with the situation of women’s football in Panama, which is getting stronger, and to see equal conditions between men’s and women’s football.

“It is worrying that those who manage national football assume a level playing field in men’s and women’s teams, while the reality behind the scenes is that in difficult times women’s football is sacrificed because it is seen as a hardship that does not affect men’s competitions like the LPF. , Prom League and Youth League,” the note explains.

Extends that cancellation LFF Not only does it affect the physique of each of the athletes, but it also goes beyond the family of each of these players.
“In the player population, many receive financial contributions in the form of salaries and travel expenses. The Federation’s decision damages the economic health of many football players who had these incomes at the end of the year,” the statement added. .
