The Car sale exceeded the figure before the pandemic in the first six months of this year, according to the monthly report of the Bureau of Statistics and Population Census (INEC) on the main monthly economic indicators (PIEM) of the Republic.
According to preliminary figures, 24,603 vehicles were sold in the first half of the yearwhich is more than in previous years, even in 2019, when 23,520 were sold in the same period.
Compared to 2022, sales growth is 22%, which represents 4,476 more vehicles this year.
Since March, more than 4,000 cars have been sold every monthalthough in June the numbers fell from 4,806 vehicles installed in May to 4,018.
The SUV models were the most sold with 12,110ordinary cars follow, with 5,891, and pick-ups, with 3,561.
The cars that are considered regularinclude sedan, coupe and pickup models.
SUVs have gained popularity among drivers, to the extent that for every ordinary car bought, 2.05 SUVs are boughtthe average last year was 1.85.
The pick-ups have also recovered and its sales are close to those of 2019. That year, 3,628 were sold from January to June, while in the same period in 2023, there were 3,561.
Until the first months of the yearit was a pick up, Toyota Hilux, the best selling car in the country.
Other cars that have improved their sales are those that are considered luxury. In the first half of the year, 1,261 vehicles were added to the fleet, 319 more than in the first part of 2022 and 49 more than in the same period of 2019.
