Georgy Yungvald-Khilkevich’s Soviet three-part musical adventure TV film “D’Artagnan and the Three Musketeers” was released in 1979 and immediately won the hearts of viewers. Famous and beloved actors participated in the film: Alisa Freindlikh, Margarita Terekhova, Mikhail Boyarsky and other stars of the Soviet screen.

She also added musical numbers to the popularity of the film – the catchy “It’s time-it’s time-we are happy…” and other songs were soon sung by everyone.
The budget for the picture was not very big, so part of the props had to be made from improvised means, even by the director himself. For example, he made the same diamond pendants for the queen overnight from cheap jewelry bought at the Odessa market.

By the way, the division of roles initially looked quite different. So Boyarsky, for whom the role of D’Artagnan became one of the most stellar in his career, was supposed to play Count Rochefort, and Alexander Abdulov was approved for the role of Gascon. However, Abdulov did not cope with the musical material, and the composer Maxim Dunaevsky suggested introducing Boyarsky.
The new French movie is called The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan. Directed by Martin Bourboulon, who released the Eiffel biopic in 2021. Here, the creators had better luck with the budget – 36 million euros were allocated for the film. The leading stars of French cinema are in the central roles: Vincent Cassel, Louis Garrel, Eva Green and others. The film adaptation was divided into two parts – the sequel will be the film “The Three Musketeers: Milady”, which will be released in the winter of 2023.
