The filmmakers went even further by imagining a meeting between the two queens that never actually happened.

The women never face each other – they talk, they move on different sides of the screen. In the film, it is explained simply: Elizabeth did not want her very beautiful sister to see what she looked like, the Queen of England.

There are several theories about the appearance of Elizabeth Tudor, daughter of Henry VIII. and Anne Boleyn. Naturally red and white-skinned, scientists suggest she abused white lead and exposed herself to heavy metal poisoning. In order to hide the damaged skin, the “mistress of the sea” … whitened even more and also wore a copper-colored wig, starting a fashion of sorts.

The creators of the film “Two Queens” presented their version of events: on the screen, the young, in love and beautiful Elizabeth falls ill with smallpox. The queen manages to save her life, but loses her beauty: her delicate skin is disfigured by potholes, her hair falls into clumps.

In an attempt to mask the effects of the disease, Anne Boleyn’s daughter fails and becomes an evil caricature of herself. This hardens her and ultimately influences the fate of the unfortunate Mary Stuart.

Margot Robbie agreed to a complex disfiguring make-up that embodies the transformation of her character’s appearance and character – and she succeeded! Although in some episodes the beauty is simply unrecognizable.
