Today, the soloist of the cult group “Něžný maj” would have lived to be 50 years old. Šatunov, however, did not live to see his anniversary – he died suddenly of a massive heart attack on June 23 last year. Since August 30, they were not allowed to go to Yuri’s grave at the Troekurovsky cemetery due to installation and construction work on the installation of the monument. Fans of the artist were asked not to visit this place for a week.
The monument was opened on the birthday of the performer of the hit song “White Roses”. The ceremony was attended by the singer’s widow Svetlana and his children, ten-year-old daughter Estella and seventeen-year-old son Dennis, who flew in from Germany specially for the occasion. The cost of the monument was paid by the artist’s family, it cost 10 million rubles. Svetlana at the cemetery was very excited. She burst into tears and was unable to speak.

The monument was opened by sculptor Victoria Tishchenko. The master made the bronze monument, it is on a granite plinth. Shatunov is captured with a microphone in hand while performing on stage. The monument shows the name and surname of the singer, the years of his life and a signature – he often left such an autograph for his fans.
“I am familiar with Yura’s work, but I have never communicated with him,” explained the sculptor. – He radiates a very positive energy, he is very pleasant, all bright, kind and popular. I wanted to make just such a simple, clean and kind, bright monument without unnecessary elements, because it does not need them. I watched his concert, he stands with a microphone and basically nothing else is needed – no backup dancers, nothing. He alone stands and alone holds the hall.

The ceremony was attended by the singer’s friend, director Alexander Igudin. “Today is a holiday for all our huge multi-million audience that loves Yura Shatunov,” he said. – Today is a birthday, it is customary to give gifts, it is customary to say kind words. Our main gift to Yura is this monument.”
After the ceremony, Šatunov’s fans were allowed to go to the monument. They laid bouquets and wreaths.
In connection with the 50th anniversary of the stage star’s birth, Natalya Gulkina shared her memories of him. The former soloist of the Mirage group noted that she asked the soloist Shatunov to wear a beautiful shirt on stage.
“I was always surprised about him that he could go on stage wearing what he came in. Here he was riding a bus in a t-shirt and then went on stage wearing it. I often reproached him: “Yura, why can’t you find a nice T-shirt, shirt?” And he laughed: “Stop, it doesn’t matter, nobody needs it, I need it. At least I’ll go out naked,” said Gulkina MK.
The singer assured that she repeatedly “scolded” her colleague for the lack of a beautiful stage image. However, Yuri laughed at her reproaches, as he considered all this to be of little importance.
