He replaced Henry Cavill: what is known about actor David Corenswet – the new Superman of the Star

David Corenswet has officially been cast as Clark Kent in the new Superman: Legacy movie, so it’s time to get to know him better.

David Korenswet was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His parents were lawyers, although his father worked as a stage actor in New York for many years before changing professions. His maternal grandfather, Edward Packard, who was the creator of a number of popular adventure books, was also associated with creativity.

David himself played in various theater productions in his childhood and took part in very serious projects. For example, his record includes the play “Macbeth”, created as part of the Shakespeare Festival in Philadelphia.

Korenswet received his BA in Drama in 2016 from the Juilliard School in New York.

Showrunner Ryan Murphy, known from American Horror Story, can be called the “godfather” of actors in this profession. It was in his TV series Politik that David played his first leading role. On the screen, the young actor played River Barkley, a student who committed suicide after losing the battle with personal expectations and social pressure that his whole school thought was the perfect guy. The tragic role helped Korenswet reveal his dramatic talent and shine in some truly heartfelt scenes.

Corenswet then worked again with Murphy on the filming of the Hollywood series, which later won numerous awards. There, the new Superman played Jack Castello, an aspiring actor making his way in the film industry. The role again showcased Corenswet’s skills and acting charisma, a vital aspect of playing Superman.

Other contenders for the superhero role included Jacob Elordi, Andrew Richardson, Tom Britney and Nicholas Hoult. But it seems that the public has chosen a favorite over the producers. A lot of fan art appeared on the network, where David was already drawn in the form of Superman – the reason was his resemblance to Henry Cavill, who was very fond of the public in this role (and fans of the series, of course, were reluctant to let him go).

The actor himself did not hide his interest in the role. So in 2019, David said during an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he would like to play Superman.

And this, in turn, corresponds to the interpretation sought by the director and screenwriter James Gunn, who is responsible for the production of the new film Superman: Legacy.

As a result, it seemed that important factors came together in Korenswet’s candidacy: the actor’s charisma and the coincidence of the vision of the role with the director.

By the way, it is already known who will play Superman’s girlfriend – this role was won by Rachel Brosnahan, winner of the Emmy Award and two Golden Globes, known for the main role in the TV series The Amazing Mrs. Maisel.

Well, we’ll just have to be patient for now — the new Superman movie will hit theaters in 2025.
