Tattoo for Weinstein
Few people know that Dench has a tattoo associated with the controversial producer Harvey Weinstein. This is a “JD loves HW” (“DD loves HW”) and a heart tattooed on her butt! The tattoo was made in gratitude for helping her become the star of many famous films – from “Chocolate” to “Shakespeare in Love” (she received an Oscar for the latter).
Dench recalls showing it to Vaishtein: “We went to dinner, there were a few other people there… And I showed him the sign! I never saw a more surprised face than his.
After the scandal broke, Dench said: “I won’t deny that Harvey Weinstein helped me with my career, but I didn’t know anything about these sex scandals! This is horrible and I feel for all the victims and I fully support anyone who was not afraid to talk about it. She also said that Harvey never molested her. Weinstein received 23 years in prison.
A long marriage

Judi Dench has been married for 30 years – more than many famous actors. She married actor Michael Williams in 1971 and died of cancer in 2001: “Everybody who’s happily married feels the same way. I was very lucky: we’ve known each other for 39 years, and we’ve been married for 30 of those. And now that he died, I understand that it is very bad without him.
Interestingly, Williams sent Judy a red rose every Friday, wherever his wife was at the time. Very romantic!
“All his life he was ‘Mr. Judi Dench,'” recalls the actress. – It’s hard for a man to come to terms with it, but he managed it. He was a great actor.”
Dench coped with her grief, but her daughter Finty Williams could not. She started drinking heavily, and two weeks after the funeral, Judy sent her to mandatory treatment. Finty, who also became an actress, is still grateful to her for that.
New love

A few years after the death of her husband, in 2010, Dench met a new man – David Mills. He is a biologist who invited Judi Dench to his ornithological center, where they began to communicate.
But she never married him: “I said right away – no proposals! Let’s just get to know each other and acknowledge our advanced age… This is my close friend, I don’t like the word “partner”. The partner is ready to dance.”
A serious phobia

Judi Dench has been afraid of worms since childhood: “I found a worm in my shoe as a child and since then I can’t even look at them. I’m good with snakes, but not worms.” Her phobia is so strong that Dench doesn’t even garden. It’s hard to believe that the Oscar winner and one of the best actors in Shakespeare’s plays hardly ever goes out into the garden!
In addition, she is afraid of the dark and never goes to the cinema, because there attacks her claustrophobia. Not very comfortable if you are an actress!
Health problems

In 2012, the actress was diagnosed with macular degeneration, a gradual loss of vision. Here is what he says about it: “This is not blindness that comes in one moment. Everything happens gradually. And then people start sympathetically asking, “How are you?” “And I understand that the disease is progressing.
Now Dench does not always recognize the familiar: “This is terrible! I can walk past a familiar person and just not notice them. Now the actress recognizes people from a distance of 15-20 centimeters: “I come very close, very close, within a handshake. We must find a golden mean in everything.”
Every role is like the last

Judy takes every role very seriously – like the last one. In 1976, she starred in Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors, and on the day of the premiere, the director caught her sobbing. When asked what happened, Dench replied: “I’m afraid no one else will call me to play!” Of course, that didn’t happen.
She likes to play new roles. It may seem that the actress chooses only charming characters, but this is not so. In 2009, she starred in the action film Fury with Jude Law and Steve Buscemi: “I love doing something unexpected and unpredictable. I had to learn how to smoke weed on set and almost set my clothes on fire! I’ve never smoked.”
In everyday life, the 85-year-old actress is also learning new things: “I don’t like sitting down. I recently learned how to carve soap figures. I can’t cook at all, so I took a cooking course. It’s important to keep learning.”
Judi Dench recalls the beginning of her film career with mixed feelings: “I was told I would never get into the cinema.” In those years, she acted in the theater, and one director said that her face was not suitable for the cinema: “He said, they say, thank you very much, but I don’t think I will see you on the screen. .”
Shyness

Lack of self-confidence haunted the actress for many years: “I knew something was wrong with me, I didn’t need confirmation. I wanted to be taller and have long legs.’
Recently, Dench said in an interview that if someone had told her in 1968 that she would play dozens of interesting roles in films, she simply would not have believed it! In addition, she always loved the theater more: “Today you can play in the theater and think that tomorrow you can improve. The cinema does not offer such an option.
One of Dench’s latest film ventures is an adaptation of the musical Cats. The actress did not see the final version: “I only know how I look there myself.” Judy’s costume resembled a cat she once had: “I really enjoyed playing a grown-up cat, even though my character is originally a cat.”
There is no retirement for her

Despite her advanced age, the actress does not intend to shoot: “People ask when I will retire. This is not accepted in our family. In retirement, people do what they always wanted to do but for some reason couldn’t. And I love my job. I don’t know what I’ll do without her.”
In 2020, Judy starred in Artemis Fowl and Six Minutes to Midnight, in 2021 The Ex-Departed, Belfast is set for release and then some. They really never get bored!
