
Cormac’s heart stopped in Santa Fe, New Mexico. “McCarthy died of natural causes in his home. His son John McCarthy confirmed it,” said publisher Alfred A. Knopf, with whom the writer worked.
The writer did not live a little more than a month before the 90th anniversary. McCarthy is remembered not only as a novelist but also as a writer of plays and screenplays.

Cormac was born into a wealthy family in Providence. He published his first story in the student newspaper. McCarthy has written several cult novels, including No Country for Old Men, The Road, Garden Keeper, God’s Child, Horses, Horses, Blood Meridian and Darkness Outside.

In 1992, Horses, Horses was adapted from Billy Bob Thornton’s Untamed Heart starring Matt Damon and Penelope Cruz.

No Country for Old Men, the Coen brothers’ dramatic thriller based on McCarthy’s novel of the same name, won four Oscars. The novel was included in Time magazine’s list of the “100 Best Books in the English Language Published 1923 to 2005”. The Road, a post-apocalyptic drama directed by John Hillcoat, was released in 2009.
