Do you have to leave the Tesla Model Y for the Aiways U6?

It is immediately clear where the Aiways U6 Coupé has aimed its arrows. It is vaguely similar to the Polestar 2 and is close in price and space to the Tesla Model Y.

Aiways calls the model a coupe SUV, but we don’t see those two body styles in the design. The U6 initially looks like a sedan with Polestar 2 specs, but turns out to be a large fifth door.

Aiways U6 Coupé available in one variant

There is only one variant in the Dutch price list of the Aiways U6, where everything is standard except for the exterior color and no options are available. Tip: get it in yellow or mint green!

Many important functions in the central display

You have enough space inside, both at the front and at the back of the Aiways U6. The dashboard is fairly minimalist, with a large, horizontal infotainment system in the middle. Some important functions can only be operated via this screen on the Tesla competitor, which is annoying and even downright dangerous in traffic.

The Aiways U6 does not charge as quickly

The Aiways U6 Coupé’s electric powertrain is decent, with a sufficiently powerful electric motor and a reasonable range of 400 kilometers WLTP.

When it comes to fast charging, the Aiways U6 is no star. At the right charging station, the Tesla competitor gets a maximum of 90 kW. Even Stellantis electric vehicles – for example the Opel Mokka-e and the Peugeot e-2008 – fare better.

Don’t expect miracles from the handling. The Aiways U6 drives like most other electric cars, with little feeling in the steering wheel and a partially hard damping of the chassis.

Tesla Model 3 and Model Y cheaper

Chinese brands sometimes take advantage of the low price they can offer, but not Aiways. The Aiways U6 Coupé is available from just under 49,000 euros. Both the Tesla Model 3 and the Model Y are cheaper.
