Honda’s new emissions invention makes cars more efficient

Although many brands are developing and improving electric cars, Honda is not yet letting go of the gasoline car. In fact, the company is coming up with a new exhaust gas invention designed to make cars more efficient.

This isn’t about a straight pipe or remote muffler like you see on many older Civics. No, the Japanese came up with a clever solution to a problem themselves.

Invention of the Honda exhaust

The exhaust that Honda shows has the shape of a spiral. The exhaust snakes its way behind the bumper before exiting. The object of the invention is to save weight. But what exactly is that?

Weight savings due to longer exhaust

Although the exhaust system is longer and therefore more weight, the system makes a Honda lighter. By placing the exhaust higher in the car in this form, floor panels are not required to protect the exhaust system from spray from the rear wheels. If water gets on a hot exhaust pipe, the metal can crack.

Exactly how much weight Honda wants to save with this exhaust is unclear. It is well known that saving weight is one of the simplest ways to make a car faster and more economical.

It is not yet known whether Honda will actually use the exhaust invention. However, the Japanese have applied for a patent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Honda Civic Type R
