Tesla employees shared pictures of customers taken in cars

Tesla employees were able to view images taken of customer cars between 2019 and 2022. In fact, workers sometimes shared videos with others through an internal messaging system. This emerges from interviews by Reuters with nine former American employees.

Teslas have many cameras. These are used to keep an all-round eye on the car both when it is moving and when it is stationary. There is also a camera inside a car.

The cameras are designed to prevent theft or damage and prevent accidents while driving. However, the cameras were misused by Tesla employees.

In an interview, one of the ex-employees tells how a man approaches a car completely naked. In fact, Tesla employees also shared lurid images with each other. For example, there is a video from 2021 in which a child on a bicycle is hit at high speed. The video circulated through the internal chat service at the San Mateo, California, office.

Even Elon Musk was spotted

Not only extreme pictures were shared. Employees also shared funny photos of dogs and street signs with text on them. Even Elon Musk, CEO of the brand, was spotted. His Tesla has picked up an old James Bond car he previously bought at auction and is in his garage.

A Tesla privacy policy states that the camera footage remains anonymous and is not linked to a vehicle. Still, seven of those surveyed said they could see the car’s locations in the system.

Tesla has not yet responded to the report on the images

According to and by the employees interviewed, the film was not only shot with the cars switched on. However, Reuters was unable to see the footage itself and verify the statements made by the former employees. Tesla has not yet responded to journalists’ questions.
